We live in a new geological epoch – the Anthropocene – so named because human activity has become the most powerful driver of global change. That notion sounds intriguing, but what does it actually mean? Which human activities drive global change? What kinds of changes are our actions causing in Earth’s systems? How are those changes affecting our lives already … and what will they mean for our children?

Joe Levine, Ph.D. is a science educator and co-author of the most widely-used high school biology program in the United States, and he has dedicated his life to improving science education and public understanding of science. This talk will discuss what we know and what we don’t know about the effects humans have on our planet, and review the challenges of teaching about global change.
