For more than 20 years, Dr. Rao worked in the Department of Psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Boston, and served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rao consults with families all over the country, and is the founder of Behavioral Solutions, a therapy practice in Lexington Massachusetts.

Dr. Rao has been a featured expert on documentaries for the A&E series Investigative Reports and MTV’s True Life series, and regularly appears on news segments pertaining to children and families. He’s been interviewed for articles in several publications, including The NewYorker, Parent's Magazine, The Boston Globe, The Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Times. His editorial letters and opinions have appeared in Newsweek, The New York Times, Scientific American, and New York Magazine.

His book, The Way of Boys: Promoting the Social and Emotional Development of Young Boys, was released in paperback by HarperCollins. He is currently working on his next book concerning the growing epidemic of anxiety in America.
