Brain Building Together (BBT) Explorer
The Brain Building Together (BBT) Explorer manages the BBT early childhood exhibit for caregivers and children ages 0-3 years by ensuring safety, cleanliness, and an enjoyable visitor experience. This position supports the exhibit’s educational goals by engaging caregivers in conversations about their children’s learning.
Essential Responsibilities
- Engage with caregivers and their children in the Brain Building Together exhibit in positive and supportive ways in order to promote enjoyable and meaningful visitor experiences.
- Extend caregivers’ experience in the exhibit through casual conversations and play while helping them understand their role in their child’s healthy development.
- Work with others in the Brain Building Team (BBT Explorers and Education Directors) to provide feedback on, further develop, and implement a high-quality, learning and play environment for families with children aged 0 to 3 years.
- Collaborate with the BBT Team to develop engaging activity kits to be used in the BBT exhibit.
- Regularly provide experiences such as Story Time, pop-up activities, and other playful explorations for children and their caregivers.
- Collaborate with the BBT Team to maintain documentation and observations on display in the exhibit to celebrate Brain Building moments and encourage adult visitor participation.
- Maintain a welcoming, safe, and clean exhibit environment.
- Support the guiding principles and goals of the BBT exhibit and the Discovery Museum’s mission.
- Participate in and contribute to staff meetings and trainings.
- Be able to staff other science and play-based Museum exhibit areas by knowledgably engaging caregivers and their children and maintaining a safe and clean environment, as needed.
Qualifications
- Ability and interest in working with caregivers and young children ages 0 – 3 years
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and support, diverse families of young children
- Experience or interest in early childhood education or family support
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to uphold Discovery Museum's COVID-19 safety policies and procedures
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Preferred: Experience with music education, storytelling, or other enrichment area
- Preferred: Fluency in a language other than English
Schedule: This position is part-time, approximately 15-20 hours per week with weekday and weekend shifts required, and occasional evenings.
