Job Title:                           Development Associate

Reports to:                       Director of Development

Schedule:                         15 hours per week, flexible schedule

Classification:                Part-time employee, hourly, non-exempt

Compensation:              $18-$20/hr.

 

Position Overview

The Development Associate supports the Discovery Museum’s annual giving and events program, and general Development Office operations. The person in this role will be a positive and professional representative of the Office and the Museum at all times, with the ability to interact and work well with colleagues throughout the organization, volunteers, and donors. This position works most directly with the Development Operations Manager, and reports to the Director of Development. It is on-site, approximately 15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support for the Development Office, such as preparation of meeting materials, Board Meeting preparation, scanning, copying documents, and filing 
  • Provide logistical support for special events
  • Manage donations and communications with local Cultural Councils
  • Manage the annual Bid for Kids, Discovery Museum’s online auction, to successful achievement of its stated goal
  • Track and ensure correct publicity of sponsors 
  • Provide monthly visitation updates to Corporate Partners
  • Support the work of the Grants Manager, Development Director, Development Operations Manager as needed
  • Assist when needed in entering gifts into Discovery Museum’s database, Blackbaud’s Altru
  • Assist when needed in preparing and mailing gift acknowledgements   
  • Help to carefully maintain prospect and donor records, including accurate data entry
  • Represent the Discovery Museum professionally at all times 
  • Occasional evening and weekend work supporting development events – both remote and on-site 
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications and Requirements

The ideal candidate will have an affinity for the non-profit sector, a natural ability to provide customer service and a keen attention to detail

  • Must be very comfortable using technology (database experience a plus) and managing confidential information 
  • Must be able to attend evening and weekend events (less than 10 per year)
  • A personal experience with the Discovery Museum and/or interest in the field of development or in customer service is a plus
  • Proficient in Excel and basic MS Office skills
  • All positions at Discovery Museum require a satisfactory Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check
  • Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs, constantly operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, and lift up to 25 lbs
